Responsible consumers, let's talk...
Over the past few years, while working in the billiards industry, I have discovered many changes and evolutions in products, warranties, quality and service work guarantees. I have heard companies promise to their customers that they were insured, guaranteed the quality of their work, promised the sun the moon the stars and to put you in their will when they die, only to fail you as a consumer when it came down to it. I have heard companies promise to share private information of all of their previous customers as testimonials of their good work. I have followed behind companies that dropped the ball in so many different ways and then refused to fix the mess they created, forcing the customer to contact myself or other reputable companies to bail them out at their own expense.
I have seen manufacturer's mis-represent their own products for fear the consumer would find out they now are manufactured overseas by people of non-American status making less than a U.S. dollar per hour. I have been asked by retailers and internet companies, to take the products out of their packaging so the customer could not see the printed words...Made in China, Made in Malaysia, etc. I have been threatened with lawsuits and industry blacklisting by companies that claimed they were selling American products but in truth were only packaging the product here in the states after manufacturing took place overseas.
I have witnessed first-hand individuals claiming extensive experience in the billiards service industry, who absolutely destroy pool tables due to an actual LACK of experience or training on the proper techniques needed to ensure your table is PROFESSIONALLY installed. These are generally individuals working out of their ill-equipped vehicles with inadequate or no insurance. Some companies even claim they are bonded "for your protection and theirs."
I have witnessed price increases and decreases and price matching, pricing wars and price slashings for holidays and slow periods.
My questions are...
WHERE IS THE CONSISTENCY???
WHERE IS THE TRUTH???
WHERE IS THE QUALITY???
I can tell you we are the best at what we do because I live and breathe billiards everyday and night of my life. I am a billiards mechanic/technician, advanced pool player, billiards instructor and I happen to have a showroom where I sell new/used and consignment products that I endorse and believe in. But who regulates which company is the best??? Is there some governing body/agency out there that rates each company by our quality, honesty and integrity? The simple answer is this...YOU as a consumer rate each company and the way we know how well we are doing is by our word of mouth returns and referrals. In our industry you may see us once every five years because you don't play on your table as often as an avid pool player would; therefore, you wouldn't need to see us until you need to re-felt or move your table. We are not the cell phone company where every dropped call you can contact us and we are judged by our performance each experience. We are not pizza delivery and you cannot judge us on the quality or taste of the product we deliver to your home every pizza night. It is difficult to hear companies making claims that they are the "BEST IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION" "BEST IN BILLIARDS". It is hard to hear because those claims are unsubstantiated and biased based on individual singular experiences by people who do not have the opportunity to shop the industry and see the quality of each companies service work.
We have just celebrated our 20th year of experience in the industry last November and we continue to thrive in this flailing economy. We avergae between 300-500 service calls and sales per year, combined. Of those numbers we see an average of approximately %70 word of mouth customers or return customers from previous years. We do not advertise in the newspapers, we rarely have ads on Craig's List because our competitors FLAG our ads and we do not have media sponsored ads because there really is no positive feedback from those venues for our industry. We value our customers and we TEACH and EDUCATE our customers and potential customers. We treat you like family and we welcome you as our friends after each successful job is completed. I was taught to sell each product at a fair and honest price point even if the profit margins were not the greatest. For us profit is necessary to live to work another day, but there comes a point where profit overcomes quality; honesty and integrity fall by the wayside. Our answer to the questions posed above can be summed up in one word....CONSISTENCY.
We are consistent, competitive and fair with our prices in all areas of our business. We are consistent in our description of our products and services. We are consistently honest, work and display the highest integrity and moral values and this will never change. We value our work and the privelge to be able to work in an industry we absolutely love. We are truly family owned and operated and we never subcontract any work. I, myself, as the owner, install all new and used pool tables we sell. I, myself, as the owner, service all pool tables we are hired to service. We hire individuals and teach them what is necessary to become a part of a highly trained, well-oiled machine of high quality products and services at fair prices.
